Rehmat-e-Nusrat is a young qawwal ensemble from the Kumaon hills, formed in 2014 by lead vocalist and harmonium player Sarvjeet Tamta. Drawing inspiration from Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, they perform his qawwalis alongside Sufiyana kalaams of Amir Khusrao, Meera Bai, and Bulleh Shah, as well as ghazals, Kabir bhajans, and original compositions.
Tamta’s musical journey includes training under the Wadali Brothers, Ustad Fakira Khan Saheb, and Padma Shri Anwar Khan Manganiyar. The group has taken Sufi and qawwali music to new audiences across India and beyond, performing at prestigious venues from Jaipur Literature Festival to Royal Opera House Mumbai, and from Sacred Music Seattle to Ziro Festival of Music 2022.
